With the tools of democracy, democracy was murdered and lawlessness made "legal." Raw power ruled, and its only real goal was to destroy all other powers besides itself.

About This Quote

After an election, the losers always say that their opponents stole the election. The winners then say that the losers are sore losers. Is there any truth to these accusations? In a democracy, is it possible for anyone to steal an election? According to the U.S. Department of Justice, voter fraud is a very rare occurrence in American elections.

In a recent study of allegations of voter fraud submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice between 2000 and 2011, not a single case was found to have been proven or even conclusively investigated, and only one case ended with a criminal conviction of a person who had been charged with committing an illegal act involving voting. It would be impossible for anyone to steal an election in a country as open and transparent as the United States.

What about other countries? In an effort to prevent voter fraud, many countries have implemented strict laws that make it difficult for people who are not citizens of those countries to vote in their elections. For example, in some countries, people must show a passport or other form of non-citizen identification before they can vote in those elections. This system may be helpful from an anti-fraud standpoint, but it also makes it difficult for many foreign nationals who were born or lived in those nations as children and who may have no other identification documents to prove their citizenship status.

In 2011, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 45 million people were born outside of the United States and lived there as children – more than half of all foreign-born residents – and were therefore ineligible to vote in federal elections without meeting these strict identification requirements established by these countries’ governments.
